In fact, dental implants have been used to replace one, several or all teeth in the upper or lower jaws since the mid 1960’s. So what are dental implants? They are small screws made of titanium, which is a metal accepted by the body. The titanium screw is inserted into the jawbone to form the foundation of the implant. Once the screw or screws are fixed an abutment (a ceramic or titanium component that ensures a secure fit between the dental implant and the crown) is fixed to the screw.
