Matt Burr of
Burr's Restaurant, Newport
Confident but not complacent is how you’d
describe Matt Burr. A chef at ease with
himself. Which is not surprising since he turns
away as many people as he serves at a week’s
end.
He moved to the Island initially just for a
year: that was 11 years ago. Married with four
children now, he has no intention of going
anywhere.
His restaurant, Burrs, takes you completely by
surprise. Behind the main street of Newport,
flanked only by a couple of companion shops,
it is a little gem which seats just 35. The décor
