the grass grow under their
feet. New proprietors of The
Bembridge Deli, they seem
already to be well established.
Now the blue and white
weatherboarded shop is packed
with gorgeously-packaged
larder-fillers which, once tried
might, you suspect, become
a necessity. Cornish Sea Salt
in chunky air-tight containers;
couscous stuffing mix; flavoured
sugars to turn an ordinary
dessert into a luxury; sour cherry
chocolates . . .
While some customers browse,
others at the fresh counter buy
homemade pate or free-range
coronation chicken, or the
cured salmon rolls in honey and
mustard. Some have taken their
fresh coffee and baguette to eat
at the pavement tables under
the striped canopy.
Jo has been quick to establish
the needs of her customers.
