The Isle of Wight has a long
tradition of recording its wildlife,
stretching all the way back
to the beginning of the 20th
century. Volunteers, assisted by
professionals and with funding
from Natural England, Forest
Enterprise, Mammals Trust UK,
the Mammal Society and the
Environment Agency, have recently
been conducting Island-wide
surveys of the majority of mammal
species of conservation concern.
The information is used to plan
their conservation. In 2007 we will
be asking for records of hedgehogs.
To let us know your hedgehog
sightings, or to find out more about
the Trust’s work on the Island,
please contact Richard Grogan, Isle
of Wight Conservation Manager, on

Your local Wildlife Trust - The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust works to create a
better future for wildlife and wild places in Hampshire and the Island. As the leading local wildlife
conservation charity, it looks after 61 wildlife reserves, has 27,000 members and 1,000 volunteers.
The Trust manages its own land and advises other landowners how to manage their land with
wildlife in mind. Staff and volunteers also carry out surveys and gather data to monitor how our local
wildlife is doing. Find out more at www.hwt.org.uk.
