A passion
for wood!
Mark Coombe from
MRC
Carpentry
&
Joinery
was
often
surrounded by wood
as his father regularly
extended and upgraded
the family home.
Because of this in his later years
at school woodworking lessons
became Marks favourite subject.
Mark commented
“My woodworking teacher saw the
commitment and dedication I gave
to this subject and I was awarded
Technology Prize of the Year.”
Whilst Mark was still in education
he went on work experience aged
only 14 to his local timber yard
(Wroxall Timber). Here Mark was
offered a weekend and holiday job,
which over time became a full time
position.
“By working in the timber yard I
absorbed information regarding
timber and its properties on a vast
scale. This experience helps me

today in selecting the best material
for the job in hand.”
Mark later moved to Moreys of
Newport, which was much the
same, but on a bigger scale. At
the same time Mark enrolled on a
woodworking course at the Isle of
Wight College.
Mark soon started work in a joinery
workshop producing things from
door linings to shop counters for a
very well known nationwide chain.
“During my period there my joinery
skills grew and my standard of work
likewise improved.
“I worked along side a skilled cabinet
maker and boat builder allowing
me to learn many skills of the trade
which I find invaluable today.”
Since Mark started his own business
he has quickly built up a vast
customer base.
“A large amount of my work is
through recommendation of which
I feel is the most satisfying and
rewarding as a joiner.
“To make my business stand out
from the ordinary I offer a design
package which the customers find
Mark Coombe pictured in his workshop
very useful in the early stages.
“This gives customers a specification
and vision which is fully considered
in the design, therefore achieving
100% customer satisfaction.”
Mark has a full portfolio of which
he likes his customers to view when
meeting for the first time.
“I purposely do this so the customer
can get a feel for the type of work I
produce in my works
