As fresh
as it gets!
Part of Alan Staley’s (head chef
at The Royal Ventnor) daily
routine is to take a trip down
to Ventnor Seafront to barter
for the freshest fish caught that
morning from Geoff Blake.
This is a wonderful sight, although
sadly it’s something we don’t see
often enough on the island.
Looking on the positive side the
good news is, a lot more restaurants
on the island are now following in
Alan’s footsteps,
and it’s paying
off for them.
Alan commented,
“‘’it’s just not
possible to get fish
any fresher than
this - from the sea
to the table in a
matter of hours’’
Restaurants
who are making
the effort to use
local produce
seriously are
slowly beginning
to see it pays to
do so. The public
are more informed than they
have ever been when it comes
to food, quality rather than
quantity is order of the day.
Over the last two years the island
has moved forward and restaurants
like The Royal now play an
important role in the current drive
to improve tourism on the island.
