Easter duck racing Once again young people’s charity Challenge and Adventure are holding a duck race at Shide footpath, Newport on Easter Saturday 31st March at 12noon. There will be a 1,000 ducks ready to float down the river - taking approximately 20 minutes for the ducks to go from deep water to the fast running shallow water. It’s quite a complicated process and involves 2 volunteers in full wet gear moving with the ducks making sure they are not stuck in the river banks. Challenge and Adventure are very lucky to be allowed to use the private bridge of Mr & Mrs Walding, who allow them to launch the ducks from there. The 1,000 numbered ducks are sold in their charity shop, 23a Lugley Street, Newport, and also through Arreton Barns, Dairyman’s, The Bargeman’s, The Steamer Inn, online at www.challengeadventure. org.uk/events/event/duck-race/ or by phoning 01983 527026. The ducks are £1 each and all money raised goes to Challenge & Adventure charity. The winning duck wins £50 and there are many more prizes. www.visitilife.com 9
