A fresh approach
to antiques
From the quirky Dutch
spelling of its name to
its tucked-away rural
location in Knighton, and
its unusual collection of
stock, everything about
Antiek sets it apart from
the usual kind of antique
shop.
The business began in 2014, after
long-time antiques enthusiasts
Natalie Cutting and her partner
Paul Radford decided to have
what was meant to be a one-off
thinning-out of items from their
own sizeable collections, in a barn
sale at their home.
However, the sale was such a
success and they enjoyed it so
much that they decided to make it
a way of life – and haven’t looked
back since.
Now the pair enjoy buying and
selling the items they love, and
source them both locally, and
from international antique fairs,
where they often discover unusual
treasures from around Europe.
The oak barn in the garden of
their home is now a showroom for
everything from country house
antiques and provincial furniture to
20th century design pieces, enamel
advertising signs, industrial items
and talking-point curios. There
are also vintage motor scooters
and bikes along with garage
memorabilia, while outside, garden
antiques and statuary can be seen
in a perfect natural setting.
Natalie and Paul regularly
source specific items for
customers, and often collaborate
with interior designers working
on bespoke projects.
As Natalie says, what started as a
hobby has rapidly taken over their
lives - and they couldn’t be happier.
“We both absolutely love it and
never really switch off” she says.
“In fact a few months ago I went
out for a Chinese takeaway and
came back with a Welsh dresser!”
