Stylish sheds
They’re probably best
known as the people
you call in the depths
of winter when you
want logs for the fire,
but Chessell Woodyard
has much more to offer
than that.
In fact, when it comes to
wood, there’s not much that
the Island’s largest timber
processing company can’t
provide.
At this time of year, when most
people’s attention turns to the
garden, the woodyard is kept busy
making everything from outdoor
furniture and sheds to fencing and
gazebos.
According to owner Pete
Barnes, bespoke fencing and
lovely-looking sheds and garden
buildings made from oak and
cedar have become all the rage.
“People are looking for a
traditionally-built, quality product
that’s durable and looks natural”
he explains.
Customers also like the fact
that most of the oak, douglas fir
and cedar is sourced from the
Island (with a small proportion
from the New Forest and
south coast) and that it’s all
responsibly harvested from
renewable sources.
All its bespoke timber
buildings are made to
measure and constructed by
their skilled master carpenter,
with over 30 years in the trade.
They’re built in the traditional
way, so you get a solid building
and not something that will
quickly fall apart. “We’ll make
summerhouses, kennels, sheds,
log stores ... in fact anything you
can think of!” says Pete.
