Local scene Raising money at the Manor An impressive total of £7,000 was raised at this very special annual party, which has become something of a pre- Christmas calendar occasion for many Islanders. The event took place at the historic Haseley Manor, by kind permission and assistance of the owners, Anthony and Vivian Roberts. An excellent six- course meal with unlimited wine, and coffee and port to finish, was complimented by a programme of top-class entertainment. Joanna Willey on violin opened the music at the Bucks Fizz reception in the manor house, after which the 120 guests moved on to the Barn for the rest of the event. Other musical contributors were Grant O’Brien (keyboard), JC and the Family Band, Kieron Cooney (festive pipes), Helena and Grant Mace (singers) and Company ‘B’ (group harmony). The money raised will benefit Naomi House and Jacks Place, where children with life-threatening illness are treated and cared for in one of the finest local environments. Paul Morgan, Head of Fundraising at Naomi House, said “I don’t know of any other event locally with such a special party atmosphere and with an expression of such generosity from so many’’ Meanwhile, organiser Terry Willey is already looking forward to next year’s 40th year event, and commented: ‘’We already have 80 advance bookings for this special celebration and I am touched by the support and generosity shown by so many people over the years’’. 50 www.visitilife.com More pictures available to buy online from our website: www.visitilife.com
