Magic of the dance
The magic of Christmas came
to Newport’s Medina Theatre
in December, with a visit by
the Vienna Festival Ballet to
perform two timeless classics
- The Nutcracker and Sleeping
Beauty.
Audiences were captivated by the dancers
– who included returning local girl
Jacqueline Back from Shanklin.
Jacqueline, 22, trained at the Gillian
Cartwright School of Dance in Ventnor,
before progressing to the London Studio
Centre, from where she graduated in
dance last year.
At the Medina Theatre performances,
she could be seen dancing as one of the
maids and one of the dwarfs in Snow
White, and then in various Corps de Ballet
roles in Nutcracker.
The Vienna Festival Ballet was founded
by celebrated Austrian dancer Peter
Mallek, and focuses on bringing ballet to
wider audiences with affordable prices.
