In honour of the bard

Over 80 people gathered at the New Holmwood Hotel in Cowes on January 28 to feast and dance the night away in honour of Scottish bard Robbie Burns .
Hosted by the Isle of Wight Caledonian Society , the traditional Burns Night celebration included the Immortal Memory address by Mark Mordey , Address to the Haggis by guest Danny Carmichael , the Address to the Lassies by Nick Martin and Reply from the Lassies by Wilma Jackson . The haggis was ceremonially piped in by Honorary Piper Kieron Cooney , while the lively Scottish dancing was co-ordinated by Aileen Napper , whose mother started the IoW Caledonian Society over 60 years ago . Among the guests were the Society ’ s Honorary Chaplain , the Rev Canon Graham Morris , vicar at Ryde , and Society President Maria Sawle .
