Philosophy & nature at Ryde School

Fiveways provides the foundation from Nursery to Year 2 at Ryde School . Children from the age of 2½ are immersed in a loving and enriching environment where nature and nurture are combined to ensure the very best start for progression into the Junior and Senior Schools at Ryde .
Visits to local beaches , woodlands and to the School ’ s own Forest School allow pupils the opportunity to learn about nature , recognise common plants and insects , have a go at cutting wood with saws , learn how to light fires ( safely ) and to grow in confidence and enjoy working together as a team . All Junior School pupils benefit from a robust and balanced curriculum with a full timetable of academic subjects and

opportunities for debating , philosophy , athletics , music , art and learning a language such as Spanish , German or Latin . Inter-schools and inter-house competitive sports start in the Junior School , with school teams for netball , cricket , football , rugby , rounders and hockey ; sailing begins with much excitement every year after the Easter Holidays , in the School ’ s own fleet of 20 dinghies . Breakfast and supper clubs , bus services from Cowes & Newport , Bembridge and West Wight and the option of Flexi-boarding ( one or two nights at the boarding house , available for older children in the Junior School ) can help parents fit the school run around busy family life . The next Open Morning is a ‘ Come and Play ’ event at Fiveways on Saturday 13th May 10.30am until 12.30pm . Booking is essential for this free activity morning when you and your child can experience Fiveways in a relaxed environment with a complimentary family lunch in the dining hall .
