Food and drink
The Wheatsheaf’s
multiple menus
Newport’s historic
Wheatsheaf Hotel has
been delighting drinkers
and diners since the
1600s – and under a new
ownership, it’s carrying
on that tradition right into
the 21st century.
The former coaching inn,
prominently situated on St
Thomas Square, has undergone
a stunning transformation since
its recent acquisition by local
businessman Matthew Parker,
who’s built a strong reputation for
turning hotels and pubs in need of
TLC into welcoming and inviting
establishments.
The complete refurbishment
has brought back to life the
building’s original features and
created a selection of quirky and
cosy guest rooms, plus a range of
dining options to please locals,
holidaymakers and business
visitors alike.
This go-to venue now features
a whole range of different eating
options that are sure to please any
diner - from the pub itself with its
classic British Bar menu, to the
in-house Nomad restaurant, which
specializes in gourmet street food
and is run by chef/owners Nick
Foster and Ryan Burr.
The bar menu is full of dishes
that make great use of local
produce and which are all cooked
from scratch by Head Chef and
owner of Island Kitchen, Jamie
Thompson.
As from April, Jamie is set to
become even busier, with the
planned opening of a fine dining
restaurant on the upper floor of
The Wheatsheaf on Saturday 8th
of April.
Named The Brasserie, this
higher-end eaterie will also be run
by the talented young chef, with
close attention to detail and plenty
to tempt the palates of discerning
diners.
It will provide yet another reason,
if any more were needed, to
check out the exciting new-look
Wheatsheaf.
In its new incarnations, the hotel
also makes a perfect venue for
private events, corporate functions
and wedding receptions.
