pledges support to charity
pecsavers, located at 107
High Street, Newport, has
announced that Isle Drive
Safe will be its chosen charity again
for 2016 after raising more than
£2.5k for the charity last year. The
charity, founded by Neal Staley
in 2013, works closely with the
emergency services and the local
council to improve road safety on
the Isle of Wight.
Neal Staley and his wife Penny
were both in their car with their
ten-year-old daughter Evey, a back seat
passenger, when they were hit by a
speeding car as they manoeuvred out of
their driveway at the start of a trip to the
shops in August 2012. Not only did they
suffer the tragic loss of their daughter, but

both Neal and his wife were also severely
hurt. The driver of the car involved had
been drinking and smoking cannabis.
This year Isle Drive Safe is launching a
pledge asking residents to drive safely and
considerately in memory of Evey and the
many others killed on the Island’s roads.
To lend support Specsavers
Newport is offering every person
who comes into the store to
sign the pledge before Thursday
31 March, the opportunity to
be entered into a draw to win a
designer pair of glasses worth
£125 and a free eye examination.
Catherine Kidd, ophthalmic
director of Specsavers in Newport,
says: “We are delighted to be
supporting Isle Drive Safe for
a second consecutive year and
encourage locals to sign the pledge.
By taking this pledge and encouraging
others to do the same, we will make a
difference.”
