EDUCATION
Philosophy & nature at
Ryde School
T
he recent addition of a new
purpose-built Outdoor Learning
Centre, built for both Fiveways
Nursery & Reception (ages 3 to 7) and the
Junior School (ages 7 to 11) has taken
learning outdoors, whatever the weather.
Alongside the usual regular visits to local beaches
and woodlands, pupils can now have a go at cutting
wood with saws, learn to light fires (safely) and learn to
recognise common plants and flowers which, alongside
the rigorous academic curriculum, aims to broaden
pupils’ learning and confidence and foster their natural
desire to learn and explore.
Philosophy and Chess clubs have also been recently
introduced with much interest in the Junior School
under the helm of new Head Mrs Linda Dennis. These
two new clubs are in addition to the many extracurricular activities already on offer and interesting
curricular additions such as sailing, which begins with
much excitement every year after the Easter Holidays,
in the Schools’ own fleet of dinghies.
Our next open morning is a ‘Come & Play’ at Fiveways
on Saturday 7 May 10.30am until 12.30pm. Booking
is essential for this free activity morning when you
and your child can experience Fiveways in a relaxed
environment with complimentary lunch in the dining
room. Please call 616272 or email fiveways.office@
