New era
at the
New Inn
S
ally Fox has become the new
manager of the popular New Inn at
Shalfleet, bringing with her a wealth
of national and international experience
in the catering profession.
Sally’s new-look team includes head chef
Mike Carley, who relishes the challenge of
maintaining the high standard of dining
associated with the New inn, with the
emphasis very much on using fresh, local
produce whenever possible.
Originally from Bognor Regis, Sally
trained and worked in a number of
top hotels in the UK before spending
five years working in Christchurch,
New Zealand, eventually taking on the
role of restaurant manager. She said:
“The restaurant had a big menu, with
experienced chefs who used a lot of
local produce, and I felt that was very
important.”
After her spell in New Zealand, Sally
worked in London for six years, arriving on
the Island last summer, and taking over
her new venture at the New Inn in late
autumn.
She said: “Mike and his kitchen team
cook with passion and pride, and it really
shows through. This is a lovely pub, and
we want to not only maintain the high
standards, but move it forward. Our
specials board has a wide selection of
starters and mains, including a lot of local
produce, which we try to change every
few days.”
The New Inn has around 70 covers, with
an outside eating area in the summer, but
the pub also prides itself on high quality
drinks, including a selection of real ales
that always includes an Island brew. Sally
added: “I am really enjoying myself, and
plan to stay for a long time. It is pleasing
that a lot of locals are calling in to see us,
and everyone is most welcome.”
