COUNTRY LIFE Gilten Dinner celebration T he Gilten Market dinner was held at the Chequers Inn, Rookley, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs R Holmes. Over 100 people sat down to a meal of roast beef, including the Patron of the Gilten Market, High Sheriff Claire Lock, who proposed the toast to the Gilten Market. Claire was presented with a framed photo of her gilding the champion beast on the day of the sale, and expressed her delight at the good behaviour of the beast, when she carried out the tradition of gilding its horns with gold paint! The photograph was kindly provided by David Biles who was unable to attend the dinner. Laurie Calloway, Committee Chairman, responded by saying that the market had been hugely successful, and paid tribute to the late Johnny Harris who had been a great supporter of the Gilten Market for so many years. Cups and awards were presented to the prize winners by the High Sheriff. Pictures are available to buy online from our website: visitilife.com 58 www.visitilife.com
