SOCIAL SCENE New venue for Gilten Dinner The Isle of Wight Gilten Market Dinner moved to a new venue this year, with more than 70 committee members and guests enjoying the surroundings of the Chequers Inn, Rookley for their annual event. Following the closure of Brickfields, the Gilten Market also had a new venue, moving to Lake Farm, Rookley, which proved extremely successful, and ensured the continuation of the historic gathering. Mary Case, the IW High Sheriff, who traditionally gilded the horns of the Gilten Beast at the Market, was special guest at the dinner, along with auctioneer Iain Soutar, a director of Southern Counties Auctioneers. The evening concluded with plenty of banter among many of the Island farmers who attended the function. Pictures available to buy online from our website: visitilife.com 44 www.visitilife.com
