Register now for
Walk the Wight
Registration is now open for Walk the Wight – and the response
has been fantastic. This is the biggest fundraising event on
the Isle of Wight and every year over 10,000 people cross the
Island, walking through areas of outstanding natural beauty, to
raise money for the Hospice.
The 24th annual event takes place on Sunday 11 May 2014.
Bring your dogs and come in fancy dress if you like. You need
to book your space in advance and can register for free at www.
iwhospice.org. Hovertravel are preparing the official registration
packs, which will be sent out by the Hospice.
Tea and cake alert!
Remember
someone special
The Hospice has set up a new
remembrance garden – an online
space where you can post tributes
in memory of your loved ones. You
can leave messages, photos and
even videos – and make a donation
to the Hospice in someone special’s
name. The money raised will help to
support Islanders with life-shortening
conditions. “Thank you for helping
people in need,” says Dani Johnson,
Fundraising. “Your kindness and
generosity is much appreciated.”

Anyone for tea and cake? Or maybe a coffee and
bacon buttie? Next time you’re passing, swing by
the John Cheverton Centre in Newport, the pop-in
centre attached to Earl Mountbatten Hospice in
Halberry Lane, Newport. Matt and Cat, the Island’s
top foodies, described the cake as ‘very very
lovely’, so drop in and sample a slice for yourself.
Everyone is welcome – and while you’ re there,
you can also visit the new charity shop where you
can pick up a bargain. Snap up clothes, books,
toys, you name it – and the money you spend will
help to support others in need.
Could you volunteer?
Are you interested in volunteering?
The Hospice relies on the support
of over 550 volunteers who help
out with everything from working
in the charity shops to pampering
patients and organising fundraising
events. Find out more at the
Hospice on Tuesday 4 March at
an information presentation from
10am-12noon - just call (01983)

Robinson, a volunteer for 14 years,
says: “It’s like a huge family here
and I love every second of it!”
