Dedicated sweet pea growers sowed their
seeds in December, in a cold greenhouse
to give their plants a good start. I am
sowing my first batches in pots now, so
that they will be ready to plant out in
March if the weather allows, and I should
have flowers to pick in May.

Cutting cle matis confu sion
Choosing the right time to prune clematis
is confusing, as they are divided into
three different groups. Group 1 varieties
such as C.montana will be flowering soon
and should be pruned immediately after
flowering. Late flowering varieties such
as C.viticella need cutting down now to
strong buds 15-30cm above the ground.
