The record price for the Gilten
Beast was again achieved when the
annual Gilten Market was staged at
Brickfields.
The 460 kilo Limousin x heifer
owned by Mick Denness from
Borthwood was sold for £1,909
– representing 415p per kilo. By
tradition, the High Sheriff of the
Island, Nick Hayward gilded the
Champion at the Market, which
attracted a good crowd, and
tremendous returns.
The Reserve Champion, also owned
by Mick Denness fetched 255p per
kilo, while the Best Island Bred
animal, a British Blue heifer from
Christine Holiday and Suzy Rickard
made 275p per kilo. Ron Holland’s
first prize pair of Unhandled Steers
were split between Steve Doe, Island
Foods and Will Newman at 285p per
kilo each.
