Level 42
on track
for new
album
Fans of Level 42 can soon look
forward to a new album from the
iconic Island band, their first in seven
years, writes Peter White.
Mark King, founder and lead singer
of Level 42, is already busy writing
new songs for the album, and he has
promised that when it is released it
will be available as both a CD and on
vinyl.
Level 42 have just completed an
eight-date tour of Japan, and now
Mark is back in the recording studio
piecing together the album that he
anticipates will be released towards the
end of this year, or early next year to
coincide with the band’s 2014 tour.
Mark explained: “The idea of a new
album is in response to our fans who
have been asking me to do one for a
long time. Writing is all about being
inspired and wanting to come up with
something new and creative.
“The inspiration for me has been
listening to the BBC6 digital music
station which is fantastic and
showcases a whole host of new bands
that are out there, like ‘Everything
Everthing’, ‘Dutch Uncles’,
‘AlunaGeorge’ and others. I find these
new bands very inspiring, and it is an
exciting time in music. So I put my
hand in my wallet to buy a new guitar,
and started writing again.”
Mark has already written a couple of
songs for the album, and said: “I just
want to let the music go wherever it
wants to go. Another thing that has
