FOOD Sampson's Baths (Fisherman's Cottage) A new era begins at Fisherman's Cottage The Fisherman’s Cottage, the iconic pub on the beach at the foot of Shanklin Chine, will have new managers, Callum Phipps and Matthew (Matt) Rolle when it opens again in March. Eric Wright and Carole Burton are retiring after eight years but will still be around to offer advice and support. Callum and Matt have been working at the Fisherman’s since they were 14 and are looking forward to the challenge. It may well be they decide to open out of season for special events and weekends. The Fisherman’s Cottage was built about 1817 by William Colenutt, the first to operate a bathing machine and who made the path through the Chine. He received a concession Fisherman's Cottage as it is today www.visitislandlife.com 113
