Gilten dinner
The annual Gilten Market dinner, incorporating the
prize giving and awards ceremony, was held at the New
Holmwood Hotel, and attracted a capacity audience.
Colin Pontin came over from the mainland to be guest
speaker, and engaged himself in some excellent banter with
local farmers. The Mark Newman Memorial Trophy was
presented by his two daughters and son to Andy Gustar,
who purchased the Gilten Beast.
The Island’s High Sheriff, Susie Sheldon proposed the
toast to the Gilten Market, and proceeds from the evening
went to the High Sheriff ’s Trust. A copy of a poster for the
first Gilten Market in 1861 was auctioned and raised £150.
