Now is time to
quit smoking
More than million smokers,
including many from the Island, are
expected to quit the habit on No
Smoking Day, which takes place on
March 14.
Over the last quarter of a century
this has grown into the UK's leading
public health event, helping over a
million smokers to quit for good.
The vast majority of smokers
would really like to stop, but find
it hard to. So this year the NHS is
encouraging people to ‘Take the
Leap’ and give it a go. But many will
ask why should they stop smoking?
Well here are a few reasons why:
More money for you and your
family, an improved sense of smell
and taste, fresher breath, less stress
and anxiety, tastier food, freedom
from the restrictions smoking puts
on you. Keeping healthy for the sake
of your children, family and pets.
Cleaner lungs and a stronger heart.

How will the Stop Smoking
Service help anyone to quit?
Everyone will have a trained advisor
who will: Check how addicted you
are, and give you all the support
you need to quit, give advice about
Nicotine Replacement Therapy
(NRT) and other stop smoking
medications, people are up to four
times more likely to be successful
if they go to their local NHS Stop
Smoking Service and use NRT, than
if they try to go smoke-free alone
using willpower alone.
Should you prepare to go
smoke-free?
Going smoke-free is about
having a plan, choosing a day to
go smoke-free, and a way to go
smoke-free. Understanding why
you smoke, and having people on
your side.
