Cavendish
Morton
celebrates
100 years
On the 17th February, Cavendish Morton
celebrated his 100 birthday. To mark this
major event, Island Fine Arts in Bembridge
are holding an exhibition of selected pieces
by Cavendish, alongside twenty plus stunning
new works by Island based painter, Christie
Bird.
The exhibition entitled “Cavendish Morton
at 100 and Christie Bird” will depict works in
oil, acrylic, mixed media and watercolour by
both the painters, and portray well-known
island and mainland views alongside still life
and coastal scenes.
Cavendish is highly regarded as a master
of light and colour; his years of looking at
nature and interpreting his surroundings have
brought about a great following. His pictures
8
hang in many major public and private
collections including The British Museum,
Glasgow Museum, Norwich Castle Museum
and the Contemporary Art Society.
Working in acrylic laid on gesso, Christie’s
paintings capture her thought and feeling.
Each painting tells a story, as the items
selected in every composition carry
significances for her journey as a painter.
She has exhibited regularly in London since
2003, including at the Royal Academy
Summer Exhibition in 2008 and 2009.
The exhibition runs from Saturday, 2nd April
to Monday, 25 April and all the painting will
be online at www.islandfinearts.com. For
