social scene Island Life - February/March 2011 James & Julia Lovell-Kaye Paul Wheeler & guest A black tie dinner and race night, held at the Cowes Masonic Lodge, Castle Road, raised more than £1,600 for two Island charities. Members of the Island branch of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association and invited guests, and Cowes RNLI members and their guests supported the event, at which Gloria and Eddie Minghella were the hosts. Gloria is President of the IOW Branch of MND and gave a short talk to encourage diners to 'dig deep' to support both charities to raise vital funds. The event, which took place on Saturday January 29, and attracted 65 diners, was kindly supported by Medina Food service who donated the food for the delicious four-course roast beef dinner with all the trimmings superbly cooked by Coleen and Ross of CR Catering of Ryde. The Races were sponsored by Murray's Restaurant of Cowes, ITS Tool Hire, Paul Wheeler Solicitors, Halcyone Villa, Eurovines, Mr. and Mrs. Chillcott, Sally and Graham Pengelly and Emrys and Jennie Lewis. Keith Lane did a splendid job organising the running of the the races, while the Cowes Masonic Lodge and its volunteers ensured all who attended were well looked after, and the fine sum of £1,621.16 was split between the two charities. The next event for MND is a Charity Antiques Fair at Northwood House on Sunday, February 27. For further information contact Jennie Lewis (MND) or Sally Pengelly (Cowes RNLI).
