life SOCIAL SCENE February/March 2010 The Royal Charity Event The Inaugural IW Youth Trust Gala Dinner held in December at The Royal Hotel in Ventnor, raised nearly £40,000, far exceeding William Bailey's target of £30,000. 'It's absolutely incredible! We are totally overwhelmed by the amazing level of support,' says IW Youth Trust Director Eileen Monks. 'The money raised will be going to a new project called The Works which using a 12 step approach, will help to support young people who want to stop their drug use completely.' William Bailey and Claire Bailey Auctioneer, Graham Benson whipped the guests into a frenzy of giving and succeeded in raising over £16,000. A mouth-watering £9,000 was bid for the opportunity to have Michelin star chef, Robert Thompson, cook for a private dinner party of 10. The bid was won by two separate tables who paid £4500 each and Robert generously agreed to cook for both. £1500 was bid for the chance to be whisked off by private helicopter to lunch at Chewton Glen. Fiona and Robin Howard and party Other prizes included a day out in a 1922 Silver Ghost Rolls Royce, an afternoon of garden consultancy with curator of Ventnor Botanic Gardens, Simon Goodenough, followed by cream tea prepared by Steve Bott – patisserie chef at The Royal Hotel. There were many generous donations provided for the auction from the likes of Liz Earle, The Spyglass Inn, The West Bay Club, Chewton Glen, Coombe Farm and Kings Manor Farm Shop.
