Britain’s got talent?
Well I’m
tempted to call this Issue of
Island Life The Isle of Wight’s
Got Talent. And look where it can
take you. We feature a gifted
actress and script writer who
has sung and danced in theatres
from New York to London,
though you can still catch her
in Shanklin and Newport; and

a
17-year-old
organist
and
trumpet player who credits the
Island for awakening his love
of music. He is surely destined
to go far. At that age too, an
apparent no-hoper left school
with few qualifications, but got
his act together to become a
globe-trotting cameraman to the
stars. And, going full circle, an
octogenarian who lived in China

and learnt Mandarin when in
his 20s has been helping local
school pupils as they forge links
with Chinese children – so they,
too, might see a bit of the world.
