The Editor Britain’s got talent? Well I’m tempted to call this Issue of Island Life The Isle of Wight’s Got Talent. And look where it can take you. We feature a gifted actress and script writer who has sung and danced in theatres from New York to London, though you can still catch her in Shanklin and Newport; and 23 70 82 a 17-year-old organist and trumpet player who credits the Island for awakening his love of music. He is surely destined to go far. At that age too, an apparent no-hoper left school with few qualifications, but got his act together to become a globe-trotting cameraman to the stars. And, going full circle, an octogenarian who lived in China 32 32 and learnt Mandarin when in his 20s has been helping local school pupils as they forge links with Chinese children – so they, too, might see a bit of the world. 46 Miles to Newport: 76 Gardening: Jan Toms tells the stories behind the ancient milestones in our highways and byways 76 - Sally Charrett on Veggie Heaven 79 - Lavender Farm goes Stateside 80 - Thompson’s prepares for Spring 48 Island at War: Contact - Island Life Magazine: 66 Victoria Avenue, Shanklin, Isle of Wight.
