Mark Young owner/chef of the award winning
St Helens restaurant had reason to celebrate
again after winning Island Healthy Alliance
for Hospitality & Tourism Award for his work
supporting local producers at the Healthy
Eating Awards which is run by the IW Council.
Mark commented " I was thrilled to be
acknowledged yet again, and so soon after
the Island Life Food and Drink Awards."

Island Training Company HTP celebrated
the Commitment to Training and Personal
Achievement of Learners and Employers at
their annual Awards celebration. The event
took place at Gurnard Pines with 200 guests
in attendance including MP Andrew Turner.
Rachael Fidler, from HTP said “when you
see how proud all the winners’ feel, it makes
us realise why we do what we do.”
Jamie Oliver boosts
organic chicken
sales
Sales of organic and
free-range chicken have
gone up by as much as
50 per cent following
a television campaign
by celebrity chefs,
Jamie Oliver and Hugh
Fearnley-Whittingstall.
Several leading
supermarkets have
reported increased
demand for the
products after a
series of programmes exposed conditions
in which battery farmed poultry is kept.
Sainsburys says sales of free range, organic and
chicken which adheres to the RSPCA's Freedom
Food Scheme have soared by 50 per cent.
Waitrose has seen demand for organic chicken
rise by 31 per cent in the second week of January
while free-range meat was up by 24 per cent.
Smaller retailers such as Sue Brownrigg
of Brownrigg Poultry who sells free-range
chickens to the public and Hamiltons Butchers
stated that orders had risen unbelievably.
