The Wonders of Walking ( with a little help from McTimoney chiropractic !)

We all know that going for a walk is a good idea and , if we are honest with ourselves we know that we feel better for it too , but do we really understand why ? Let me explain ...
Apart from the fact that walking is a wonderful combination of transport and exercise ( and it ’ s free !) it benefits the human body in a number of different ways . When you stride out swinging your arms and legs with an energetic balanced gait you are mobilising nearly every joint in your body in a safe yet challenging way . Walking at speed or uphill challenges your heart and lungs sending more oxygen around the body and giving you a cardiovascular workout . Risk of injury is low with walking unlike more demanding sports and if you take a four legged friend it can become a social activity as well ! Common excuses for not getting up and out there can include ‘ my back , hips , legs , knees ache too much when I walk ’. Sitting still is not going to help these become more mobile or pain free so something that you could investigate is having your spinal alignment checked .
