A glittering Diwali

One of the most significant festivals in Indian culture , Diwalifestival of lights - was celebrated at Balcony in Ryde by 175 guests , including Councillors Charles Chapman and Ian Ward and Mayor of Sandown Rajesh Patel . This has become an annual event on the Island and ensures the rich traditions are kept alive and can be shared with the local community . The programme began with an Invocation song by Dr Ramesh Babu followed by an Invocation dance by Anupama Singh and Krushila Patel , and culminated in a fantastic display of fireworks on the beach , viewed by the guests from the Balcony . Afterwards there were multicultural dance performances including both western and Indian Bollywood dancing styles , and some Bollywood singing by Dr Ramesh Babu and a song by six year-old Avy . There was also audience participation , and a three course authentic Indian Dinner catered by Taste of India from East Cowes . Dr DJ from the Island provided Bollywood music for the disco , and there was a raffle to raise funds for this year ’ s local charity- Toy Appeal .
