We will remember

Sunday November 13th saw over 2,000 people attending the Remembrance Day Service at Newport ’ s St Thomas Square cenotaph , all paying tribute to all those men and women killed in conflicts past and present .
The service was conducted by the vicar of Newport , the Rev Kevin Arkell , and among the 800 participants were representatives from Christ the King College , the British Legion and Isle of Wight cadet groups . The Island ’ s Lord Lieutenant Maj Gen Martin White laid the first wreath to the accompaniment of Dr Kieron Cooney playing bagpipes . Additional wreaths were laid during the ceremony by MP Andrew Turner , and the High Sheriff Robin Courage among many other local representatives . Royal British Legion bearer Dave Mosling had the honour of carrying the parade ’ s Union Flag .
