Air Ambulance wins award
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance ( HIOWAA ) had reason to celebrate recently after winning an Association of Air Ambulances Award of Excellence for its highly successful ‘ Be a 999 Hero ’ Education programme . HIOWAA CEO Alex Lochrane commented ; ‘ We are thrilled to be recognised for the success of our ‘ Be a 999 Hero ’ programme and the part that it has played in spreading our life saving message to children aged 5-11 across our region ’. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance ‘ Be a 999 Hero ’ education programme is designed to teach young people about how to respond in an emergency and to highlight the importance of the Air Ambulance and other emergency services .

A Big Hug Charity Concert

February 2nd sees the Big Hug Charity Concert take place at Medina Theatre . This variety concert has everything ; singing , dancing and music that will be enjoyed by all the family and will certainly get your toes tapping ! Artists include Wight Harmony , the Elderberries , Nikki Cross School of Dance , Wight Notes ( formerly known as Vox Pop ), the RUG Band ( Ryde Ukulele Group ), Helen Mansfield and Solent Singers . The concert is in aid of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice , KissyPuppy and MacMillan Nurses - local charities that do such vital work on the Island and each of whom holds a special place in the hearts of all the performers who are giving their time and talents . Generous funding for Yellow Door

Yellow Door have received some much welcome support on the Island in terms of a cheque for £ 10,000 which was presented on Wednesday by The Wight Aid Foundation Trustee , Rob Da Bank YD Co-ordinator , Jane Winson and her Island team have been working hard over the last 18 months from their base in Newport to provide much needed therapeutic work for those who have come forward for support having been affected by rape and / or sexual abuse . This funding will help the team enormously enabling them to offer the service to more clients that come forward and reduce current waiting lists . Hearing loss charity seeks feedback

The charity Action on Hearing Loss is calling on the 32,000 people living on the Isle of Wight with deafness or hearing loss to provide feedback on how well GPs and other NHS services communicate with them since NHS England ’ s Accessible Information Standard was launched early this year . The Standard , which came into full force on August 1st , requires all NHS and adult social care providers to meet the communication and information needs of people with a sensory loss , impairment or a disability , including the one in six living with a hearing loss . Roger Wicks , Director of Policy and Campaigns at Action on Hearing Loss ,
a cheque for £ 10,000 to help Yellow Door carry on their amazing work helping victims of rape and sexual abuse on the Isle of Wight . Such an essential service and one that we would like to see flourish .” Tara Doel , Yellow Door Business Manager who accepted the cheque said “ This funding is such fantastic news for those victims in need of our service living on the Island , a short while ago specialist support was only available from the mainland for clients so being able to provide service for those in need directly on the Island is a great step in making the service accessible for all .”
