And they’ve managed to bring both those passions together at Daisy Daisy, their gift shop on Godshill High Street, which showcases an eclectic collection of present ideas from around the world. In fact, all the shop’s gifts and goodies are carefully chosen both for their unique style as well as their ethical credentials. Many of their products - including Nick’s own hand-made jewellery - make creative use of recycled materials. These include the ever-popular recycled and enamelled aluminium nibbles trays and bowls, a wide range of felt goods, rainbow-painted ceramics and hand-printed scarves. There’s also a quirky range of almost magical socks made from bamboo, which are anti-fungal, warm in winter and cool in summer. Annabel, who has a background in retail, says that she and artist Nick are determined to show that Fair Trade can be fun, fashionable and affordable. “We purposefully try to keep our prices as reasonable as possible” she says. “Fair Trade should definitely extend to the customer as well!” Most of Daisy Daisy’s stock is sourced from BAFTS or WFTO accredited importers and in particular Annabel and Nick like to support those producers working to improve the lives of marginalised women. This includes their felt fabric items, which are largely made by women who have been victims of human trafficking. High Street, Godshill, PO38 3HH t. 01983 840913 e.
