&DRINK FOOD FOOD Have you got taste? S ince winning a Michelin Bib Gourmand in September, the Seaview Hotel has once again put good food back at the heart of this iconic hotel. The Bib Gourmand award is not as well known as the Michelin star and is basically awarded for menus that are both creative and affordable coming in at a price of three courses for £28. “We found out in a really exciting way as Michelin revealed the awards on twitter,” says Marketing Manager Tracy Mikich. “I ran into the kitchen and told Head Chef Bruce and he swept me off my feet! You could see, and hear, how elated all the chefs were!” The award is for the restaurant which features a Focus on Fish menu that is centred around fish with meat and veggie options. “We are always trying to improve our offering and recently Dillon, our sous chef went to Vanilla Black for a stage placement. Vanilla Black is quite simply an exceptional vegetarian restaurant located in Holborn and specialises in fine dining. “It was a brilliant experience and has definitely inspired me to push our vegetarian offering,” says Dillon. The hotel also likes to look after Islanders and has a Seaview Taste Club which offers discounts throughout the year. This winter enjoy 15 per cent off of bar main courses and selected drinks including Carlsberg, house wine and Island ales. If you dine in the restaurant you can also get £5 off a bottle of wine per booking. “The Seaview Hotel is so unique. The atmosphere is unfussy, welcoming and something of a home from home. For many of our regulars it’s rather like being a member of a club - the Seaview Taste Club!” says Tracy. So, next time you visit be sure to sign up and get your Seaview Taste Club card. Award winning ales By Claire Bennett, Island Brewery W ow, December, we finish one ‘silly season’ here at Island Ales and Island Brewery and we then start another one. We have had an eventful year in 2015, winning awards from Beer of the Year from CAMRA for our Earls RDA, and Silver for Yachtsman’s, SIBA Silver for Earls RDA and Bronze for Yachtsman’s and Wight Knight and not forgetting our Gold World Beer Award for our Wight Christmas. No pressure for next year then! We are gradually expanding our spirit and wine range, with some beautiful examples of fine distilling and fermenting. It’s a tough job, but someone has to taste them. The Brewery is growing from strength to strength, we are starting our exciting journey to export so watch this space as to where the Isle of Wight will be found. We are already found on the wonderful cruise ship Britannia as well as some Carnival Cruise liners, well travelled we think they say! So, what will the New Year bring? We like to think that our customers will tell us that, growing with their needs and requirements in mind. Happy New Year to you all, cheers or is it bottoms up! www.visitilife.com 101
