FASHION HEALTH & BEAUTY Make the right choice this winter I slanders are being reminded to take care of themselves and their family’s wellbeing this winter by making sure they choose the right NHS service for their health needs. The Isle of Wight NHS is reminding residents of the various ways in which they can look after themselves and which local NHS services are available when help is needed in a hurry. The number of people using the Emergency Department at St Mary’s Hospital is growing and may not always be the right option. The Emergency Department and 999 should be left for those who really need help in an emergency, while other services such as your Pharmacist, GP or the NHS non-urgent helpline 111 can offer medical advice. Mr Robin Beal, a Consultant in the Emergency Department, said: “The simple message is please stop and think before coming to the Emergency Department. Most people genuinely need the service because they are suffering from a life threatening or emergency healthcare condition. But there are still some people who visit because they have a minor illness, such as a cough, a cold, or minor cut. These patients would get advice and care faster by using their local GP, pharmacy or NHS 111 for non-urgent advice.” www.visitilife.com 91
