Great Wall Steed
Driven on the Island by Peter White
The increase in popularity on the Island
for the Great Wall range of vehicles will
be further strengthened by the arrival of
the new Steed range from the Chinese
manufacturers.
Great Wall have recently opened a new
factory in China, and to celebrate they
have introduced three vastly improved
Steeds - the Steed S, the Steed SE and
the Steed Tracker. Make no mistake,
these rugged pick-ups are designed as
work horses - perfectly equipped for
hard graft. Even so, inside the cabin there
are such refinements as practical and
comfortable leather interior, heated front
seats, Bluetooth and hands-free mobile
phone connectivity, and a tyre pressure
monitoring system.
The new range is available at FH Winter
and Sons, Havenstreet, and I test drove
the Steed SE, which has the additional
improved colour co-ordinated hard top
canopy with black roof rails, rear parking
sensors and side bars, tow bar and
electrics, which are now more substantial
and modern in appearance. The Steed
is a strong solid vehicle; it has to be to
become China’s best selling pick-up for
the last 15 years. It's the pick-up with the
best mpg on the market; and its turbo
diesel 140 bhp engine generates a 2.5
ton towing capacity.
It’s ideal for those who have to carry
loads of equipment and tools from job to
job, with the Steed Tracker aimed more
at the farming industry with its front and
rear mud flaps and off-road tyres.
You can switch effortlessly from twowheel to four-wheel drive, and there’s
also ‘four-wheel low’ for overcoming
difficult terrain, both uphill and down.
Something else you will like about the
new Steed range is the price. They start at
just £14,998 up to £16,998, and all come
with a six-year, 125,000-mile warranty.
