Remembering the fallen
H
undreds gathered at War
Memorials across the Island
on Remembrance Day for the
laying of wreaths of poppies as a mark
of respect for those from the Island who
have lost their lives fighting for their
country.
There was a large gathering at St
Thomas Square, Newport for the two
minutes’ silence followed by a service in
the Minster.
This year marked the centenary of
the start of the First World War, but
people also stood to remember those
who fell in more recent
conflicts, including
The Falklands and
Afghanistan.
