Legal
service takes
place at Minster
T
he annual legal service for Judges of the Western
Circuit, including the Isle of Wight, was held at the
Minster Church of St Thomas the Apostle and St
Thomas of Canterbury, Newport.
Members of the legal profession, including Judges, Court
staff, and the resident judge of the Island His Honour Roger
Hetherington, processed from the Law Courts to the Minster
for the service, which is an ancient tradition to ask for God’s
blessing for the beginning of the Legal Year.
The Bishop of Portsmouth, the Rt Rev Christopher
Foster, gave the address. and there was involvement of
several Island schools, including Christ the King and Ryde
School. Afterwards a lunch was held at the IW College,
which provided a wonderful opportunity for the College to
showcase its hospitality and catering side.
