Trust Fund
cash boost
A team of around 20 volunteers descended
on the Ventnor Botanic Gardens for the
annual hop picking.
Due to the erratic summer conditions of wet
weather, followed by a hot, dry spell, the hop
yield was smaller than normal. But there was
still a sufficient supply to produce the tasty
Botanic Ale, with bottles being sold at the
Botanic Gardens.
The Breast Care Nurses’ Trust Fund
at Applegate House, St Mary’s
Hospital was given a £4,150 boost
following a fancy dress charity fun
night in Shanklin.
The event, organised by Jamie
White in memory of his mum who
died two years ago, included an
auction of items donated by no fewer
than nine Premier League football
clubs including Manchester United,
Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa.
Breast Care nurses Alana, Clare
and Sylvie said: “We were totally
overwhelmed by the amount raised,
and we can assure you it will be kept
locally and put to very good use.”
Remembering the fallen
Wreaths of poppies were laid on war
memorials across the Isle of Wight
on Remembrance Day as a mark
of respect for those from the Island
who lost their lives fighting for their
country.
