The Village Inn: so warm and cosy
The Village Inn, in Shanklin Old
Village is undoubtedly one of the most
photographed pubs on the Island – a real
favourite for thousands of visitors each
year. But perhaps what is most pleasing
about the Village Inn is that once you
step inside you experience a warm, cosy,
welcoming atmosphere that perfectly
complements the idyllic exterior.
Paul and Joan Ottley have been running
the Village Inn for more than 20 years,
and are now able to sit back and relax
more often, leaving it in the capable
hands of daughter Lisa, the manager, and
son Kevin, the head chef.
The Village Inn has a reputation for
their selection of real ales, fine wines and
mouth-watering food, and it provides
the ideal venue to start your festive
celebrations with a set Christmas menu
for parties, which runs through to the
New Year.
The Inn has more than 50 covers
downstairs, which is ideal for small
groups, while the function room on the
first floor comfortable seats 60, and is the
perfect for that larger special occasion.
Apart from the Christmas Fayre, there is
also an extensive menu and a ‘specials
board’, along with vegetarian dishes and
provision for those with food allergies.
Homemade mulled wine is available at
this time of year, and Lisa has revealed
that she is also toying with the idea of
serving mulled cider as well – so why not
call in and find out? There is an excellent
variety of entertainment on Friday and
Saturday evenings, with a host of local
singers and musicians for all tastes. And
from December 20 there is entertainment
every evening through the festive period,
with the exception of Christmas Night.
The Village Inn is tastefully decorated
each Christmas, adding to the warmth
and character of one of the Island’s
showpiece pubs. So make sure you put it
on your Christmas list! Call on 865500
