ISLAND LIFE
Special guest at service
Island High Sheriff Nick Hayward led the congregation at the
Legal Service at Newport Minster to mark the beginning of the
Law Year 2012-13 of the IW Courts.
The service was also attended by special guest Stephen
Ndzerem, who is head of SHUMAS, the partner Organisation in
Cameroon of Nick and Nicky Hayward, and fellow Trustees Ian
and Marianne Johnson from Brighstone, who raise money for
building projects in that country.
Stephen organises all the selecting, building and maintenance
of the schools, colleges and medical centres. For years Nick,
Nicky, Ian and Marianne have been to Cameroon to attend
formal ‘Handing Over’ ceremonies in remote villages where
they have built schools. Nick said: “We sit and watch amazing
performances and many formal parades, so it was thrilling to
have Stephen come and attend the Legal Service where he was
able to see how we do Pomp and Ceremony on the Isle of Wight.”
The service was conducted by Reverend Kevin Arkell, Vicar
of Newport; Reverend Gerald Reddington, Chaplain to the High
Sheriff and The Rt. Reverend Christopher Foster, Bishop of
Portsmouth.
