Ryde rowers
back to roots
Ryde Rowing Club returned to the roots to
celebrate a successful season at their annual
dinner.
The celebrations were held at Yelf ’s Hotel,
Ryde, where the club’s first meeting was held
in 1877.
Club captain Pete Hewision welcomed
members and guests and thanked them for
their support over the last year.
The Coxswain's Cup was awarded to
Ed Newnham, the First Year Oarswoman
Trophy to Sophie Brown with the First Year
Oarsman’s Trophy going to Joe Norman.
Bryony Reeve was awarded the Ladies Trophy
with Charlie Gedling receiving the Men's
Trophy.
The Coaches Cup went to Allan Evans
and the Committee Cup to John Adams in
long overdue recognition of his many years
of service to the club. The traditional "First
Hants & Dorset ARA win" Club spoons were
awarded to Jo Norman, Charlie Norman,
Harvey Kirkby, Gemma Smith, Sophie Brown
and Christian Lacey. The Captain’s Cup,
awarded by club captain Pete Hewision, was
presented to Dale Buckett.
Two raffles were held to raise funds for the
Club and its nominated charity, the Naomi
House Children's Hospice.
