The Searchers clock up 50 years...
The Searchers, arguably one of the
longest formed and busiest groups
in the world of pop music, will be
starting their 50th anniversary tour
early in the New Year.
The Searchers, whose string of hit
singles included ‘Needles and Pins’,
Don’t Throw Your Love Away’ and
‘When You Walk In The Room’, have
inevitably seen a number of changes in
personnel over the years.
But John McNally, one of the
founder members of the group, is still
in the quartet, along with Frank Allen,
who joined in 1964 after a brief spell
with Cliff Bennett and The Rebel
Rousers. The Searchers have appeared
on the Island numerous times over
the years, and when we caught up
with Frank he revealed that this was a
favourite destination of his even in his
school days.
