FOOD
Barefoot up and
really running!
Excellent food served in a friendly,
relaxed atmosphere at a stunning
location – no wonder Barefoot on
the Beach restaurant in West Wight
is proving so popular for locals and
visitors alike.
Husband and wife Fraser and
Emily Lloyd Jones moved to the
Island from Oxford seven years ago.
They always wanted to own their
own establishment, and despite
fierce competition they managed to
acquire the sought-after premises,
opening it as Barefoot on the Beach
just over three months ago.
As the name suggests, the
restaurant is located right on
Colwell Beach, along Colwell Chine
Road, Colwell Bay, and is open all
day, serving breakfast, lunch and
dinner all the year round, but is
closed on Sunday nights and all day
Tuesday.
Fraser, who works front of house,
said: “All of the food we serve is
home-made and locally sourced
wherever possible. We have locally
caught sea food on the menu,
as well as the likes of a fabulous
home-made burger
and steaks. We also
have a separate children’s menu.
“We open for breakfast at 9.0am
until 11.0, and then serve lunch
from 12.0 until 2.0pm with dinner
6.0pm until 8.0pm. But we remain
open all day for teas, coffees and
snacks.”
Breakfasts range from full English
to smoked salmon and scrambled
egg, while the lunch menu
also includes a fine selection of
sandwiches. Barefoot on the Beach
has 30 covers, with an extension
and new kitchen planned for early
in the New Year. It is also available
for private parties of 20 or more
people, with bookings always
advisable.
Fraser added: “We came up with
the name Barefoot on the Beach
because we feel it gives a clue to
the ethos. We are on the beach and
we wanted it to be somewhere for
people to come in bare-footed if
they wish, and be able to relax while
enjoying their meals.”
