Make sure to look after feet
Like so many of us, I am guilty of
not looking after my feet as well as I
should, writes Peter White. They are
so important, yet because they are
so far away from the eyes, it is easy
to just look down and then ignore
them!
But I finally decided enough was
enough when it came to dodgy
looking toe nails and feet that were
definitely in need of some attention,
so I hobbled along to Jenny
Guy Chiropodist, Lugley Street,
Newport.
The practice is run by husband and
wife team Chris and Jenny Guy, and
it was Chris who kindly offered to
use his skills to my advantage. He
said: “We have been running the
practice here for 10 years, but Jenny
has been qualified for 12 years, after
she left nursing, and I have been for
six years.”
Chris and Jenny offer a varied
service including nail cutting,
attending to corns, in-growing toe
nails and verrucas, as well as helping
people’s posture by fitting shoes
with the appropriate insoles. Chris
discovered that one of my nails had
been badly damaged, and only time
would tell if I had also damaged the
nail bed, which could mean it may

never return to normal.
“However, if you visit a chiropodist
on a fairly regular basis, we can
keep those nails looking vey tidy,”
he reassured me. “A lot of people do
not cut their nails correctly, so it is
important that they are cut and filed
down the right way.”
Many of Jenny and Chris’s regular
patients visit the practice because
they are no longer able to reach
down to cut their toe nails, and it
is a pleasant experience to just sit
and put your feet up and have them
pampered to by a professional.
Jenny and Chris’s price range
is very competitive, with Chris
insisting: “We are cheap. But we

have good clientele who are very
loyal, and these days money is tight,
so we want to provide a service that
is cheap. If you charge someone
£30 they will only come once every
three months, but if you charge only
around half that hopefully they will
come every six weeks, which we
recommend for nail cutting.”
Chris added: “Feet are important.
I don’t understand it that some
people can spend £100 having their
hair done, and then limp down the
road because their feet are hurting.”

remembering!
