Major General Martin White
Major General Martin White CB CBE JP hosted his annual
awards ceremony at the Royal Yacht Squadron, Cowes this
October. The evening was a celebration of success and
achievement with awards recognising a diverse range of
achievements from individuals and groups from across the
Island.
As well as military awards including the Lord-Lieutenant’s
Certificates, SSAFA long service award, Hampshire
and IW Territorial Trust award for notable achievement
and award for 40 years service to combined services
entertainment, a number of public service and community
awards were presented by the Prison Service, Hampshire
and IW Constabulary and the British Red Cross. Four new
Lord-Lieutenant’s cadets were inaugurated, they will support
the Lord-Lieutenant in his duties over a two year period and
assist at major events.
New for this year were the Island Ability Awards which
acknowledges disability diversity on the Isle of Wight.
Organised in partnership with the Southern Housing Group,
Local Involvement Networks (LINKs) and the Isle of Wight
Council, awards were presented to the Isle of Wight College,
James Loosemore, Angela Guille and the Hot Green Bus
Dance Group.
Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Major General Martin
White, said: “The evening was a great success and it was an
honour to present so many deserving awards. It is important
that we recognise achievement and celebrate the valuable
contribution individuals and groups make to our community.”
