Michelangelo's
inspired sauce
Inspired by the legendary artist of the same name,
Michelangelo Italian restaurant in St Thomas’ Street, Ryde,
have started producing their own tomato sauce, using Isle of
Wight tomatoes.
The restaurant is owned by husband and wife Annamaria
Sacchini and Dante Poli, and close friend Rosanna Pancot.
Annamaria smiled: “The story goes that while urgently
completing a painting commissioned by a Prince,
Michelangelo noticed that he was running out of the colour
red. He went downstairs into the kitchen, put some tomato
sauce into a bowl, then went back upstairs and completed his
work, which, once delivered, received applause and success.
So one can say that Michelangelo’s Tomato Sauce is s a real
work of art!”
